Making A Statement

You've got a nice big space to fill in your home. It's light, doesn't get a draft and isn't near a radiator. Perfect! You've got a nice selection of smaller plants but you really want something that is going to fill the space and be a talking point whenever someone steps foot in your home! This list is perfect for you!

This list is in no particular order, they just happen to be some of my favourite plants, and in 2021 they are getting more popular by the day!

My all time favourite plant, has to be Strelitzia Reginae. Commonly known as the Bird of Paradise.

These plants get beautifully big. I mean... really big! However, the bigger they get, the grander they look.

They really do like the light, however make sure they aren't in direct sun for any extended periods. They also love a day trip into the garden in the summer.

The flowers on this plant are stunning but they only flower very rarely in this country. Not that I think this matters when the leaves look this good!

If you have a large, bright, warm space; this is the plant for you.

The second plant on my list, is a plant that I sell more often than anything else. I almost consider it a staple of any plant owners home. This plant is the Monstera Deliciosa.

Who can not fall in love with those beautiful leaves? This Instagram worthy plant has been very popular over the last few years and shows no signs of slowing down.

I always think it's nice to buy these when they are a little smaller and you can almost tame them to fit around your home.

They grow brilliantly up moss poles, or you can use hooks to grow them up a wall or conservatory. These are also a sun loving plant but again, no direct sunlight.

If you don't own one already, you should!

Up next is another very popular plant. You can get them in a range of different sizes but they are fairly slow growing so its always best to get something already fairly well established. I am talking about the Yucca! They come in an array of different varieties, my personal favourite being the Elephantipes.

I love their style! It's like having a tree... inside!

These plants love the sun and also enjoy a day out in the garden during the summer.

It is a relatively new plant which is being brought in to the home, and it's not uncommon to find no mention of them at all in older house plant books.

A word of caution though, those leaves are pretty tough and I cant imagine it being a pleasant experience if one were to come in to contact with your eye! This does however, give you the perfect excuse to buy a particularly tall one! These plants sell very well from PaisleyFlamingo, but are currently collection only due to their size.

The next two plants on my list do not get to the same sizes as the former plants, but they still make a great statement piece. The first of the two, is Zamioculcas Zamiifolia. Try saying that after a gin or four.

The ZZ plant has shot to fame over the last few years and it's clear to see why.

The leaves are perfect 'leaf' shapes, if there is such a thing.

Born and raised in South Africa, this plant is a little different to the others on this list as it actually prefers less light, and can go much much longer without water. Its beautifully deep green, glossy leaves really do make an impact.

If you have a space to fill that isn't particularly bright, this is the perfect plant for you.

Last on our list is very popular at the moment and I am sure you will have heard it mentioned a few times at least. The rubber plant!

I adore this funky plant. The leaves are so shiny you can almost see your face in it. Plus when new leaves are coming through they are a pink shade. What's not to love?

This plant is from the south of Asia and in its natural habitat can get up to 60 metres tall, with its trunk getting up to 2 metres in diameter. Luckily for you it won't get to those heights indoors.

You can buy these in a variety of different sizes, but if you can, bigger is more of an impact!

So this concludes our list of statement plants. We could go on for days and days as there are so many to choose from. As with any plant, do a little research first to ensure that your space can match the plants requirements, especially if you are paying extra to have a larger plant.

If you have any favourites, leave them in the comments!
