(Almost) Indestructible Plants

I regularly have beginners, and people who have turned killing plants into an art form, ask me which plants are indestructible. Unfortunately, there aren't any plants that are completely bombproof, but I have compiled a list of the plants that are most likely to survive being forgotten.

Devils Ivy 'Golden Pothos'
This wonderful looking vine, looks fantastic in any room of the house. You can train it to grow up a moss pole, or alternatively, up a wall. It grows like a weed and can make a huge impact in a short space of time.
It is happy in a bright, humid bathroom, or by the living room window. It doesn't need a lot of attention and is normally pretty happy with just a weekly watering. Other than that; sit back and enjoy it.
At PaisleyFlamingo, we sell many of these and love to see where people have placed them.

Cactus
Considered by some to be the ultimate unkillable plant. Cacti can go weeks if not months without water, they don't need pruning, and are pretty hardy to diseases. Voila... is this the winner? Well its pretty safe to say that these plants are brilliant for beginners.
Some people think they look a little boring, but when these plants flower, they produce some stunning colours! The one time these plants can be a little more difficult is re potting time... Be careful!
You can place cacti pretty much anywhere you like as long as they get a good amount of sun. Cacti will grow towards the light in the same manner as other plants and they can get very oddly shaped should this happen.

Snake plant
These plants very rarely get a good drink in the wild, meaning they are perfect for those of you who like a low maintenance house lodger. You can get them in a range of sizes with some perfect for a windowsill and others big enough to fill a reception hall.
Their colours are very bright, and their leaves give an interesting dynamic to a house with other plants and foliage.
These plants will also show you some love by popping out a flower or two. They flower in a spray of yellow/white flowers.
Keep these plants in a good amount of light and they will be more than happy.

Zamioculcas Zamiifolia
The beautiful, waxy leaves of the ZZ plant are instantly recognisable. These plants really do make an impact, and look like they might be hard work to maintain. The ZZ plant comes from South Africa, meaning it can go for long periods of time without water.
Along with low watering requirements, the ZZ plant is pretty happy with lower light levels. This allows so many options for placements within your home. The top or bottom of a staircase, in the bedroom or by the sofa. You can't really go wrong with this plant.
These plants are fairly slow growing and will normally only grow to 2 or 3 feet meaning you won't end up with a monster in the home.
These are one of our most popular plants at PaisleyFlamingo and we always keep them very competitively priced.
I hope this list will persuade some of you to retry houseplants. A lot of people will buy something such as an orchid, watch it die, and then swear they will never spend their hard earned money on another houseplant. The plants in this list can be very easy to care for, and will look great in your home.
If you have any plants that you think should be added to this list, please drop them in the comments!
